 TOOL KIT

  • Hori Hori

The only garden tool you’ll ever need, this handy Japanese all-in-one trowel is our go-to for planting, seeding, checking soil moisture, and weeding. It has inch measurement on the front and one serrated edge for cutting through roots.

  • Felco Clippers

We feel naked in the garden without our trusty (never rusty) clippers on our hip! Prune, harvest, and well - clip - with ease. These sturdy clippers will last a lifetime, with simple care and skillful replaceable parts.

  • Holster

Keep your clippers always in reach (and avoid holes in your pockets or loosing them in between the vines) with this slim slip-on holster. Be the fastest gardener in the west. We promise you’ll feel as cool as you look wearing it.

  • Corona Clippers

For an affordable option that will get the job done any day, these classic clippers won’t let you down. They are spring loaded and ready to clip through the your garden obstacles. Just oil and sharpen to keep them shiny.

  • Harvest Knife

Sometimes clippers are just a little too bold, and you need to reach for your extra-sharp harvest knife to cut delicate quash stems or harvest loose leaf salad greens with whisper thin accuracy. You’ll end up using it for much more.

  • Folding Knife

If you want to carry your harvest knife in your pocket while you work, this wooden Opinel is the best solution. It even has a genius twist lock feature for added safety. Functional enough for the farm, stylish enough for a charcuterie board.

  • Tie Tape

There is no better way to trellis and support your plants. This stretchy tie tape will move with the plants as they grow, so you don’t have to worry it’s too tight! Put it in your pocket, unravel, tear, and tie as you go.

  • Gloves

Getting your hands dirty is part of the fun, but some garden tasks are best done with gloves. They need to be somewhat water resistant, with reinforced palms, and tight enough around the wrists to keep the dirt out when you’re digging for potatoes!

  • Plant Labels

We prefer using wooden plant labels out in the garden, that way there’s no little bits of plastic getting lost in the soil. Plus, they just look better. Save and reuse, or write on the other side.

  • Tool bag

Unless you enjoy forgetting tools and making 7 trips back and forth (we’ve all been there), you’ve gotta have a tool kit to hold it all together. This is where your hori hori, tie tape, gloves, and even a few seed packets live so that you’re always ready to grow!

  • Bucket Tool Bag

Serious gardeners need serious tool bags, which is why our team of farmers use these exceptional 5-gallon bucket inserts to stay organized on the go at any garden. Believe us, there is a pocket for everything and you will soon have it filled to the brim.

  • Harvest Basket

Get ready for abundant garden harvests with a durable and stylish basket that will never buckle under pressure. This basket would never dream of squishing your ripe produce, collecting dirt or water at the bottom, or looking anything less than quintessential.

  • Half-Bushel Basket

Carry it all with this wooden apple bushel basket and every day will feel as festive as fall. We love harvesting into these light yet durable baskets that will keep all your rolling cherry tomatoes and thin snap peas securely enclosed.

  • Digging Fork

There’s no better way to mix up, aerate, and amend your soil each season. We use our digging forks way more than shovels! Plus, they’re perfect for harvesting potatoes, carrots, and other underground goodies.

IN THE FIELD

  • Neem Oil Spray

Our favorite do-it-all spray that combats both pests and fungal disease! Neem oil comes from neem tree seeds, it is organic approved and truly a gardeners best friend. It is invaluable for treating powdery mildew, rusts, and many small unwanted insects.

  • Neem Oil Concentrate

Save money and save the planet by purchasing this concentrate and using your own reusable spray bottle to apply. A little goes a very long way, and the only other ingredient you need is water. This is pretty much a no-brainer.

  • Insecticidal Soap

The best cure for most insect issues in the garden is insecticidal soap sprayed directly on the leaves and pests for immediate results. This is the mixture we use, but if you’re crafty you could also make your own with dish soap, it’s that safe!

  • Sluggo

For when you’ve already tried pruning and cleaning the garden, but the slugs just keep coming. This bait will solve the problem and is organic approved, but we still recommend using it sparingly (and prefer this version over the Sluggo Plus).

  • Disease Control Spray

We swear by this product for keeping our tomatoes healthy and disease free. Use it to prevent mildew, rust, leaf blight and more on a variety of plants. This little bottle of concentrate lasts for many applications, and can be used as a foliar spray or root drench.

  • Copper Spray

We bust out the copper spray early every year to spray all our stone fruit trees, but it can also be used in the garden to treat tough fungal diseases. Neem oil is still our first fungicide choice - copper is stronger, so as always be sure to follow the instructions.

  • Fabric Grow Bags

Raised beds aren’t always possible or necessary, but that’s okay because fabric grow bags are here to save the day! These lightweight, super convenient fabric pots are the fastest way to start gardening, no matter how much space you have.

  • Insect Netting

When sprays just won’t solve the problem, it's best to use a mesh crop cover cloth to protect your veggies from flying insects, birds, and other critters. Or even better, use this as prevention as soon as you plant. Be sure to shop the right dimensions for your garden beds.

  • Wire Hoops

Don’t forget to keep your crop cover cloth suspended and pulled tight over your veggies with wire hoops so you don’t hinder their growth. Simply cut (with wire cutters) and bend this 9 gauge wire to the size of your garden beds, its really that easy.

  • Bird Netting

Tired of birds pecking away at all your vegetables? Keep them off with bird netting, the simple and reusable solution. Be sure to support the netting up off your plants using wire hoops. We always use a 7ft wide roll of netting, which means less time messing around with scissors.

  • Staples

There is no better option for keeping irrigation lines and insect netting securely fastened to the ground. These are a must for any drip irrigation set up, and you can almost never have enough, especially if you like tidy garden rows.

  • Expandable Hose

If you’re looking for a hose that won’t tangle and can store in small spaces, this expandable one is all about convenience. Just be sure to drain the water pressure after each use.

  • Hose Nozzle

We always have one of these spray nozzles in our tool kit to give out to clients, they are simply the best! The one-touch valve means that you can water without the pain of squeezing on the trigger the entire time, which is a game changer. And the 9 spray options are perfect.

  • Hose wand

We’re big fans of the shower setting, and if you hand water a lot this handy wand can make that relaxing task even more enjoyable. No more bending over around plants, and no more splashing water and dirt everywhere.

  • Watering Can

We always pack a watering can for diluting and applying liquid fertilizers and foliar feeding! This one is super lightweight, with an easily removable shower spigot. Plus, it comes in a variety of colors to match your garden scene.

  • Metal Watering Can

Heavy-duty and farm-chic all at once, this is the watering can you won’t want to put away in the toolshed. This watering can is meant to be seen, and built to last a lifetime out in the sun.

  • Tomato Cage

It’s absolutely necessary for tomato trellising to be tall and sturdy, which is why we prefer these square cages that will give your tomatoes the support they need and help you make the best use of your vertical garden space. Plus they fold flat for easy storage.

  • Willow Tower

These ready-made accordion towers are perfect for growing climbing beans, peas, cucumbers, and even squash! We use them year round and love the way they look in the garden. A very affordable trellising option! This one is 48” but they come in 60” too.

  • Hardware Cloth

Also sometimes referred to as gopher wire, this thin metal mesh is super important to add (stapled on) to the bottom of raised beds before soil to keep gophers and other tunneling critters out of your garden!

  • Frost Blanket

This light woven material will keep your veggies or perennials (think citrus trees) protected on frosty nights. It will allow water and some light through, but we don’t recommend leaving it on throughout the year.

AMENDMENTS

  • Agrothrive

Our go-to liquid fertilizer concentrate for foliar feeding veggies once a month. This organic mix has micro and macro nutrients along with microbes, all in an easily digestible form for plants to absorb quickly.

  • Agrothrive Fruit & Flower

With a higher ratio of Phosphorus and Potassium, this foliar feeding solution is perfect for feeding your flowering crops during the summer months to support healthy blooms.

  • Fish & Kelp

The perfect foliar feeding blend - fish emulsion macronutrients with liquid kelp micronutrients. Dilute with water before applying!

  • All-Purpose Fertilizer

The perfectly balanced fertilizer for amending soil before planting, or when your plants just need a boost and you don’t want to worry about skewing the NPK ratio.

  • Tomato/Flowering Crop Fertilizer

This fertilizer is perfect for all fruiting vegetables to help support flower and fruit development later in the season, as it has lower Nitrogen content.

  • Blood Meal

Plants need nitrogen for green growth and you will need to replenish it seasonally with something such as compost, manure, or blood meal. There are many other individual amendments you can purchase for their own NPK ratio, such as bone meal, feather meal, and more.

  • Azomite

Sometimes potting soils don’t have all the trace minerals that plants need to thrive, but this is an easy way to make them available.

  • Gypsum

A soil conditioner that helps break up clay soil, with the added benefit of adding calcium.

  • Sure Start

The easiest way to amend each planting hole and give your plants the best chance of success! Especially useful mid-season, so you can harvest and replant in the same spot immediately.

  • Citrus Fertilizer

Our favorite fertilizer for every kind of citrus tree. Just follow the super clear instructions on the packaging to apply a few times per year.

  • Acidifying Fertilizer

Blueberries like their soil pH to be more acidic, so we use this azalea fertilizer a few times a year to get happy blueberry bushes and big berries!

  • Lime

The best way to raise soil pH (make it less acidic) is using agricultural lime like this. Dolomite lime includes magnesium as well as calcium carbonate.

  • Sulfur

The best way to lower soil pH is using elemental sulfur by itself. This pelleted version is easy to measure and apply.

  • Iron Supplement

Citrus trees especially need an iron supplement once or twice a year to keep leaves green instead of yellow. Amounts of iron in citrus fertilizer mixes are usually not enough on their own.

  • Potting Soil

FoxFarm Ocean Forest is our favorite potting soil mix for container gardens. We always recommend buying organic.

  • Coconut Coir

Who knew, coconut hull fibers are the perfect addition to your garden soil! The fibers loosen up clay soil, and help air, nutrients, and roots make their way through your garden beds. Soak in water before mixing in.
